We are Delta Star! The largest, American-owned medium power transformer manufacturer in the United States and the premier manufacturer of mobile transformers and mobile power substations in North America.
We are an industry-leader that has harnessed the power of electricity to reliably connect you to an essential part of modern-day life. Giving you the peace of mind you deserve to go out and make the world a better place!
This position is onsite based out of either Lynchburg, VA or San Carlos, CA. Relocation benefits are available.
Summary
Delta Star Inc. is looking for an innovative and detail-oriented Simulation and Modeling Transformer Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll use advanced computational tools to model and analyze transformer performance under real-world operating conditions. If you're passionate about solving complex problems through simulation and improving product design, this opportunity is for you!
What You'll Do
As a Simulation and Modeling Transformer Engineer, you'll develop and validate thermal, electromagnetic, acoustic, and fluid dynamic models to predict transformer behavior. You'll partner closely with design engineers to translate your simulations into practical design improvements, helping to ensure our transformers are efficient, reliable, and built to the highest standards.
A Day in the Life
Your day may start by setting up a new thermal simulation to evaluate a cooling system design, followed by reviewing electromagnetic analysis results, and acoustic simulation with the design team. You'll use simulation tools like COMSOL or ANSYS to run multi-physics analyses, document your findings, and recommend design modifications. You'll also work with the testing team to validate simulations against physical test results, ensuring accuracy and continuous improvement in modeling practices.
Specific Duties Build and validate thermal, electromagnetic, acoustic, and fluid dynamic models of transformers. Use simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS) to assess design performance under various conditions. Interpret simulation results and recommend design enhancements. Collaborate with design engineers to optimize components for efficiency and reliability. Document simulation processes and prepare clear technical reports. Support product testing and correlate simulation data with physical test outcomes. What We're Looking For
We are seeking a technically strong, curious, and detail-driven engineer who thrives on applying simulation and modeling to solve real-world design challenges. The ideal candidate is analytical, collaborative, and eager to advance product development through data-driven insights.
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Proficiency in simulation software such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or equivalent. Experience in medium to high voltage power transformer design or testing. Strong foundation in mathematical modeling and analysis. Solid understanding of transformer physics and performance behavior. Ability to translate simulation results into actionable design recommendations. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering or related discipline. Experience with multi-physics simulations and optimization methods.
Why Join Us?
At Delta Star, you'll be part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) with company match, ESOP, and annual bonus opportunities.
You'll also enjoy paid time off, wellness programs, floating holidays, and education assistance to help you grow your career. Here, your expertise in simulation and modeling will directly contribute to shaping the future of power transformers
