Description of Work Central Regional Hospital

Per G.S. 126-5(c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.

We are currently recruiting for a School Educator at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) in the Department of Child and Adolescent Programming.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Secondary Science teacher for 6th - 13th grade students at CRH. Job duties include but are not limited to:

1. Teach (social studies, science, English, and/or math) to inpatient secondary students; using effective technology in the teaching environment to increase student achievement; provide diagnostic assessment of skills; track daily progress on medical charts; propose education goals and strategies for school needs; prepare and develop lesson plans for classes based on Standard Course of Study; and collaborate with school staff in developing plans for patients who are having academic difficulties in the classroom or have specialized educational needs.

2. Grade, record, and file assignments daily; maintain attendance records; provide work for substitute; and prepare report cards for students assigned 3. Write IEP's on assigned students utilizing federal and state guidelines in collaboration with school and clinical staff, parents, students, service providers, and community personnel as deem appropriate; prepare quarterly progress reports as necessary; and maintain required information in student folders.

3. Collaborate to help suggest goals and accommodations for students with disabilities on assigned students; maintain student work and required DPI information in student folders; and contribute to continuous quality improvement

4. Attend staff meetings, department meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings as needed, attend professional development opportunities, and in-service training; assist with program planning and evaluation, curriculum development, educational materials and equipment selection, staff development, community meetings, and extra-curricular student activities, and other assigned duties.

The normal work hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, however flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. Ability to successfully complete all required initial one-time trainings and hospital/clinical orientations. Successful annual completion of hospital training, NVCI training, discipline specific training, and required departmental training. Four-year degree in education (or appropriate major area) for School Education I, master's degree in education or appropriate major area for School Educator II, or Doctoral degree in education or appropriate major area for School Educator III. Must be highly qualified to teach in a subject area. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a NC License in Special Education or enroll in a EPP program to obtain a NC license in the area(s) assigned. Management preference:

Experience working in an institutional school setting or with students who have serious psychiatric diagnoses. Licensed or eligible for a license in an academic area pertinent to middle/high school students. Creative, energetic teacher who will engage students through interesting, 21st century teaching techniques.

Position requires average physical activity. Consistent motivation and energy are necessary to ensure quality service delivery. Requires ability to stand for periods of time, go up and down stairs and be outdoors during field trips. Bachelor's degree or above in Teaching Area with/or eligible to receive a license level of one of the following: Bachelor's, Master's, Advanced, Doctorate. Must be Highly qualified for EC, Elementary or Core Area.
