Job Summary:

The assistant controller is responsible for all areas relating to compilation and presentation of the financial statements. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The assistant controller supervises staff accountants and the Accounts Payable/Receivable functions, payroll, trade and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, tax preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The assistant controller reports to the VP of Finance and will have contact with the Analysis, and department managers which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure Manages and oversees the daily operations of the accounting department Leads accurate and timely month and end year close processes, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll and utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, account reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity, etc. Monitors and analyzes accounting data and produces financial reports or statements in accordance with GAAP Performs balance sheet reconciliations and ensure business leaders understand any risks involved Establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies, and principles Supports budget and forecasting activities Responds to inquiries from the VP of Finance, and other leaders regarding financial results and special reporting requests Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy Assigns projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions Establishes and monitors co-worker performance and developmental goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance appraisals, and administers salary adjustments as required Maintains procedure manuals and documentation Coordinates with VP of Finance to ensure all accounting occurs timely and accurately Owns the annual financial audit process and all tax compliancy Ad-Hoc Reporting and Analysis Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting Proven working experience as Accounting Manager Minimum 5 years of prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and financial modeling/analysis concepts Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy Demonstrated success and interest operating in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment Strong communication skills; capable of presenting complex financial information in an easy-to-understand format High degree of initiative, intellectual curiosity and abstract reasoning skills Excellent interpersonal communication skills, high sense of urgency and creative thinking Mathematical Skills: General Arithmetic/Basic algebra/Percentages/Fractions Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations High attention to detail and accuracy Preferred:

MBA or CPA preferred Manufacturing experience Experience in computer based accounting systems Equipment:
