Job Title: Phlebotomist I Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and suggest workflow improvements. This position requires a hands-on approach to specimen collection and processing, ensuring that all procedures are conducted efficiently and accurately.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
Update and manage patient information.
Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual departmental training sessions.
Answer phone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draw, and venipuncture.
Skilled in specimen collection and processing.
Strong customer service abilities.
Possession of a valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state.
Minimum of 6 months experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
0-2 years of relevant experience.
Work Environment
The work environment is fast-paced, typically within a laboratory or hospital setting. The role demands adherence to safety regulations and protocols, including those set by OSHA and DEP. You will need to maintain specimen integrity during collection and transport, requiring attention to detail and accuracy.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
