Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and interacting with patients in a courteous manner.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
Decontaminate and update patient information.
Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct.
Package and store specimens according to required temperature protocols.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results when necessary.
Essential Skills
1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting with 30+ blood draw/volume, including all age groups from pediatric to geriatric.
Proficient in phlebotomy, blood draw, specimen collection, and processing.
Strong customer service skills.
Knowledge of chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, and urinalysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma.
Certification is a plus.
Experience with ASCP and AMT is desirable.
Work Environment
The role is based at a laboratory within a pharmacy setting. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break. Inquiry about Saturday mornings is required. The work environment is professional, and adherence to safety and health regulations is essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, Alabama.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
