Position Description: The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair SMA solar inverters, energy storage systems, and related equipment at customer sites. This role ensures system reliability, maximizes energy production, and provides on-site technical support for customers. The FSE will collaborate with engineering and product support teams to resolve field issues and drive operational excellence.
Requirements:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Renewable Energy, or related technical field; or equivalent military/industrial experience
Strong electrical/electronic systems knowledge and troubleshooting skills
Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical system repairs
Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and specifications
Familiarity with PV systems, inverters, battery storage, or similar power equipment preferred
Strong communication and customer service skills
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Willingness to travel regionally and work overtime as needed
Responsibilities:
Perform on-site installation, start-up, commissioning, and testing of SMA inverters, battery storage systems, and monitoring equipment
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues on utility-scale and commercial PV systems
Conduct preventive maintenance to maximize uptime and efficiency
Perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions for performance issues
Provide customer training, system guidance, and product support
Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to resolve field challenges
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company quality guidelines
Prepare accurate service reports, documentation, and customer updates
Physical & Work Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in outdoor environments (heat, cold, confined spaces, elevated platforms) Comfortable working with high-voltage equipment following strict safety protocols Willingness to be on call and work overtime as needed
