Summary:

First Step is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Philanthropy and Advancement. The Director of Philanthropy and Advancement will lead all fundraising, donor engagement, and communications strategy at First Step. Reporting to the Executive Director, this individual will guide long-term financial sustainability through a diverse funding portfolio and strategic partnerships. This senior leader will shape and implement a comprehensive development strategy to support First Steps mission to eliminate domestic and sexual violence and provide critical life-saving services to survivors and their families.

Salary range: $85,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision, prescription). 401(k) with agency match, LTD and life insurance, generous PTO. Location: Plymouth, MI Key Responsibilities: This leadership role is both strategic and hands-on, overseeing all fundraising, marketing, and donor communications functions.

Lead all major giving efforts, annual campaigns, grants, and sponsorships. Set and manage philanthropic KPIs, donor databases, and reporting systems. Oversee fundraising events, publications, stewardship, and branding initiatives. Collaborate with leadership and program teams to align fundraising with service impact. Represent First Step externally with donors, funders, and community partners. Collaborate with and work alongside the Executive Director and Board of Directors Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising and donor engagement plan. Cultivate major gifts, manage a personal donor portfolio, and steward long-term relationships. Oversee all philanthropic communications, digital strategy, and agency publications. Inspire and lead a small philanthropy team, fostering collaboration and accountability. Engage directly with the Board of Directors to support philanthropic initiatives and goals. Qualifications:

We're looking for a seasoned fundraising leader with a passion for social justice and strong relationship-building skills.

7+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, including major gifts. Proven success with donor strategy, grant writing, events, and CRM management. Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills; public speaking experience preferred. Leadership experience managing staff, working with boards, and developing systems. Bachelors degree preferred; valid drivers license and background checks required. Must be able to attend evening/weekend events.
