An 11th Hour / Vigil Volunteer supports the care plan for the hospice patient who wants someone to be with them when death is imminent. As an 11th Hour / Vigil Volunteer you provide support to the patient and caregiver/family members by being present at bedside.
You may come in hours or days before death. and If the vigil is long, the vigil staff and volunteers take shifts if the patient or family wants someone present.
Vigil Care may include:
Providing a calm physical presence
Sitting together
Talking and listening
Shared silence
Healing touch
Reading of scripture or inspirational text
Requested rituals
Inspirational music
