Travelers will be required to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with two maximum attempts. Failure to pass will result in a 6-month Do Not Use status. There is also a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. If failed, the individual will be sent home and made a DNU for 6 months. The unit consists of a total of 60 emergency department beds. Patient ratios are typically 1 to 4. Common diagnoses include patients waiting for placement on a unit, primarily medical-surgical and telemetry. Nurses must be skilled in managing cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters. Experience in this role does not require previous travel experience. RNs will have to titrate drips including Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Charge nursing responsibilities will be fulfilled by the charge nurse. This position does not include a monitor tech, so nurses must read and interpret strips independently. Shifts are 12 hours long, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or from 7 PM to 7 AM. There is a weekend requirement of four shifts within a four-week schedule. Holiday shifts will be rotated with permanent staff. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating to med-surg/tele/overflow units may be required based on departmental needs. The dress code is navy scrubs. Additional duties may include assisting with ED patients, such as taking vitals, starting IVs, and administering medications. Nurses will not be assigned as primary RNs for ED patient assignments. The facility has a cancellation policy allowing for cancellations of up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
