Overview:

A leading manufacturer in the food and beverage industry is seeking a skilled

Controls Technician

to support equipment reliability, troubleshooting, and process optimization at our Burlington, NC facility. This role goes beyond standard maintenance-it requires the ability to connect directly with PLCs and HMIs to perform

advanced troubleshooting,

as well as apply basic PLC programming to keep systems running at peak performance. The right candidate will combine strong technical expertise with a continuous improvement mindset to enhance uptime, quality, and efficiency across production lines.

Responsibilities:

Equipment Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Connect to PLCs and HMIs for advanced troubleshooting rather than relying solely on HMI I/O status. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and controls-related issues. Conduct preventative maintenance per schedules and OEM recommendations. Partner with OEMs to diagnose and modify equipment for reliability. Controls & Process Optimization

Perform basic PLC programming to adjust and optimize equipment performance. Support the installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment. Collaborate with engineers and production teams on continuous improvement initiatives. Lead small-scale controls and engineering projects with proper documentation and training. Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate maintenance logs, troubleshooting reports, and equipment modification records. Ensure all activities comply with safety standards, food safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Collaboration & Support

Work alongside production teams to minimize downtime and resolve issues quickly. Train and support operators on equipment troubleshooting and best practices. Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field; equivalent technical training also considered. 3+ years' experience in controls, industrial maintenance, or similar technician role in a manufacturing environment (food & beverage preferred). Hands-on experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley or Siemens preferred), motors, drives, pneumatics, and electrical control systems. Demonstrated ability to connect to PLCs and HMIs for advanced troubleshooting. Basic PLC programming experience required. Strong ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Flexibility to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
