Overview
The Grants Manager plays a key role in advancing Fresh Starts mission by leading all aspects of grant strategy and management. This position is responsible for identifying, researching, and pursuing funding opportunities from foundation, corporate, and government sources; cultivating relationships with funders; and managing the full grant lifecycle, including writing compelling proposals, overseeing deadlines, and reporting outcomes. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong writing skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to collaborate across departments. This full-time position reports to the Chief Development Officer. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. What youll do
Manage Fresh Starts full grants portfolio, including identification, cultivation, submission, and reporting. Proactively research and evaluate new and existing funding opportunities across private, corporate, foundation, and government sectors. Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, leveraging community connections and professional networks. Draft letters of inquiry (LOIs), case statements, proposals, acknowledgments, and follow-up communications. Oversee and provide direction to the part-time Grants Writer, ensuring alignment with grant strategy, timelines, and quality standards. Develop the annual grants budget and establish revenue projections to support organizational fundraising goals. Collaborate with leadership to set annual goals for prospecting, submissions, awards, and renewals. Collaborate with CFO and program team to develop budgets and ensure alignment with each individual grant. Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar, ensuring all deadlines for applications and reports are met. Track grant activity, communications, and progress in donor database, ensuring timely and accurate records. Ensure compliance with grant requirements, including outcome measurement, data collection, and reporting protocols. Provide internal guidance on donor-specific requirements and ensure compliance with applicable funding guidelines. Prepare monthly progress reports and communicate outcomes and performance metrics to leadership. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer. Bachelors degree required. Minimum of three (3) years of successful grant writing experience. Proven track record of securing and managing foundation and/or government grants. Experience with government grants strongly preferred. Strong command of written and verbal communication, with an eye for clarity, tone, and grammar. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. High attention to detail, particularly in proposal development and compliance. Proficiency with donor databases and Microsoft Excel; experience with grants tracking software a plus. Flexible, proactive, and adaptable team player with a collaborative spirit.
