Allay Home and Hospice
Hospice Vigil Support in Washington County
Allay Home and Hospice, Jackson, Wisconsin, United States, 53037
The purpose of our Vigil Program is to support fragile patients who may be alone during their final days or hours. The emphasis is on bringing a sense of peace and calm to the patient at this time.
Volunteers create a serene environment by reading a comforting prayer or poem, listening to soothing music or just sitting quietly holding a patient's hand. Simply being present with the patient is the main focus at this time.
Vigil volunteers are most often requested for those who are likely to be alone: however, volunteers may also be asked to support family members who need to take a break from the bedside of their loved one or the emotional support of a caring person.
Since the vigil program is an "on-call" type of opportunity, we do take into account the volunteer's personal schedule and location when attempting to fill a vigil request.
Volunteers receive training in the philosophy of hospice, the role of the volunteer and other staff members, and helpful skills for meaningful visits with hospice patients and their families. Additional training specifically related to the vigil visit is provided.
