Position Purpose
Performs skilled maintenance work in the repair, adjustment, and changing of keyed and combination locks. Maintains records of lock codes and coordinates the use of lock combinations; repairs and maintain lockers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Repairs and maintains all existing locks and hardware. Orders and installs new locks and hardware according to blue print specifications. Cuts keys, re-keys according to bitting lists, and opens locks with the use of lock defeating tools and methods. Complies with state and federal safety codes. Displays good interpersonal skills, using tact, patience and courtesy. Demonstrates cultural competence in interactions with others; is respectful of co-workers; communicates and works to improve team-building; promotes team work. Responds and acts appropriately in confrontational situations. Communicates professionally with customers about problem areas and/or breakdowns. Must be flexible and able to assist with various duties within the department, in addition to being able to work alone in most situations. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Knowledge of safety protocols, and District rules and regulations applicable to a variety of equipment and systems found in public school systems. Knowledge of ingress and egress hardware and associated lock and security systems, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire and Life Safety Codes, Uniform Building Codes, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) codes. Knowledge of the materials, tools, equipment, and methods used in the maintenance and repair of locks, including key making and master-keying practice. Knowledge of general maintenance practices and procedures and the proper use of hand and power tools and equipment. Knowledge of lubricants and metals used on different types of hardware. Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy. Skill in coordinating, planning, organizing, leading, and completing projects. Ability to read work orders and calculate quantities of materials needed for repairs. Ability to properly use and care for locksmithing tools and equipment, and keep records. Ability to repair locks and make keys, weld, braze, and solder. Ability to work at various heights such as 30 feet above ground, including ladders 21 feet tall. Ability to perform various repairs without supervision, working independently, or with a helper depending on workload demands. Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors. Ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, locksmith diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Ability to use software to status work orders, do email, and do word processing. Ability to organize and coordinate work, including maintaining attention to details and quality, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Education:
Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency. Certification/License:
Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required; Locksmith Journeyman license preferred or obtainable within 1 year of employment.
Experience:
3 years' locksmith experience on commercial buildings required.

Must be at least 21 years old. NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion. Driving and accident record: Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check
