Medical Technician

The purpose of this job is to work in the medical field to support medical staff and provide numerous functions to assist in patient care. Must maintain compliance of all local, state and federal laws, and policies and procedures governing the Orangeburg County Detention Center (SC Minimum Standards and PREA), etc. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: Administers prescribed medications to patient and maintains related medical records under supervision of nurse. Verifies identity of patient receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records. Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medications using specified procedures. Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered. Record and restock medication inventories. Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect responses to specified types of medications, and prepares report, or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions. Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires certification from an accredited certified medical technician program. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Special Certifications and Licenses: Certification from an accredited Certified Medical Technician program. Supervisory Functions: None.
