POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Technician supports the company's environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations, including those enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). This role is responsible for monitoring, recordkeeping, sampling, and reporting related to air, water, waste, and hazardous materials. The Environmental Technician works closely with the EHS Manager and plant leadership to maintain regulatory compliance, support sustainability initiatives, and promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Monitor and maintain compliance with EPA, DEQ, OSHA, and other applicable environmental regulations. Conduct sampling and testing of water, wastewater, stormwater, air emissions, and solid/hazardous waste as required by permits and regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across all departments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of site-specific safety policies, procedures, and training programs. Monitor and maintain environmental compliance, including waste management, water discharge, air emissions, and spill prevention measures. Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting; assist in tracking corrective actions and follow-up. Coordinate waste disposal and recycling programs, including hazardous waste handling, in compliance with environmental standards. Maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure proper chemical storage and labeling. Conduct employee training on safety and environmental topics such as PPE, emergency response, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and more. Monitor and report on key safety and environmental metrics; maintain accurate documentation for inspections, incidents, and regulatory submissions. Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain records and documentation for environmental permits, inspections, and agency reporting. Assist with emergency preparedness, including updating response plans and participating in drills. Assist with regulatory agency inspections and audits (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local health department).Serve as a resource for line supervisors and team leads in addressing safety and environmental concerns. QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Chemistry, or related field preferred. 1-3 years of environmental compliance, industrial safety, or regulatory experience in manufacturing or related industry preferred. Knowledge of EPA and DEQ regulations, including RCRA, CWA, CAA, and hazardous waste management practices. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills. Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and apply them to day-to-day operations. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and recordkeeping. Effective communication skills to work with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies. HAZWOPER or other environmental/safety certifications a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to have a full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching outward, pushing, pulling, intensive hand/wrist movement and lifting to meet the NSP minimum required pounds per day which is up to 50 pounds (unassisted). The employee must be able to walk and stand for a significant amount of time on even concrete surfaces, which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process.

Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required. The employee must have good, corrected vision to see details at close range or at a distance. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40°F to -45°F. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat.

While in the production area, employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats.
