Coming October 2025 (Pending Funding): Family Support Worker - Community-Based Child Welfare
Washington, DC | Hybrid / In-Community When families in DC face hardship-unstable housing, unemployment, or the stress of navigating child welfare systems-they often need more than a list of resources. They need someone to show up, listen, and walk alongside them as they work toward stability.
As a
Family Support Worker , you'll be that trusted guide. You'll partner directly with families at risk of child welfare involvement, helping them strengthen their resilience, build support networks, and access the services that make home a safer place.
One week, you might connect a parent to parenting classes or mental health counseling. The next, you're sitting with a family to create a tailored plan for housing stability and school support. Every step you take helps keep families safely together and empowers them to build brighter futures
What You'll Do Deliver direct, community-based support for families with complex needs. Develop individualized service plans that promote stability and well-being. Connect families to housing, employment, parenting, and behavioral health supports. Serve as an advocate between families and agencies, ensuring respectful, coordinated care. Keep accurate, timely case documentation in line with agency standards. Collaborate with Family Success Centers, nonprofits, and resource hubs to provide holistic support. Qualifications
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field. At least 2 years of direct service experience with children and families. Strong empathy, communication, and cultural responsiveness. Ability to set boundaries while maintaining supportive relationships. (Preferred) Familiarity with DC initiatives like
Family First DC
or
Family Success Centers . (Preferred) Bilingual fluency (Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, etc.). Why It Matters
