The Oakland Public Works Academy Trainee program was made to help people ages 18 to 30 who live in Oakland get work experience and learn job skills. The program also helps them get better at finding and keeping a job. It focuses on training people to work as Park Attendants, Office Assistants, and Custodians. The goal is to create a strong group of young workers who are interested in working for the City of Oakland's Public Works Department.

We are looking for someone who is: Knowledgeable
about health and safety rules, cleaning methods, and how to use cleaning tools and equipment properly. Timely, reliable, dependable, consistent , and thorough in their work. A team player
who is self-motivated and can work independently but also willing to collaborate on shared tasks and projects. Willing to share their knowledge
in a positive way to help improve team morale and productivity. Able to multi-task
and complete various duties like cleaning and disinfecting offices, bathrooms, and kitchens; stripping and waxing floors; and handling trash and recycling. Flexible
and able to shift priorities when urgent tasks come up. An active listener
who can follow directions both spoken and written. Able to communicate
respectfully and clearly with peers, supervisors, officials, and customers. Adaptable
to change and eager to learn, always looking for better ways to do custodial work more effectively and efficiently. What you will typically be responsible for:
Stocking
restrooms and restocking supplies in common areas Cleaning
inside and outside City buildings, including areas with illegal dumping Dumping
trash Stripping , waxing, and buffing floors Performing
physical work safely, including lifting and other hands-on tasks Providing
friendly and respectful customer service to the public and City staff Completing
