Warehouse Clerk

The purpose of this classification is to order, receive, record, store and issue materials, supplies, tools and equipment for an assigned department. Distinguishing characteristics of this classification are that incumbents are responsible for ordering and recording materials, supplies, tools and equipment as well as receiving, storing and issuing the same. Essential functions include preparing and submitting parts and supplies order request forms, reviewing inventory reports to determine needed materials, confirming quantity on hand, reviewing usage, researching and evaluating suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, distribution capabilities, etc., preparing requests for quote for new items, and creating and submitting purchasing documents for verified qualified vendors. Other duties include issuing parts, tools, supplies, orders, or other items, filling work orders for parts and supplies from inventory, pulling stock to fill work orders, reviewing work orders to ensure accuracy and closing out completed work orders, maintaining logs/records of all materials checked out or issued, processing inventory at receiving, receiving materials, equipment, and supplies, verifying shipping and packing lists, performing accurate count of incoming materials, running receiving reports, and entering inventory items into department database by part number, vendor, price, detailed technical specifications, and location. Additionally, incumbents are responsible for shelving and storing materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper shelving of inventory, updating stocking levels, maintaining inventory locations, ensuring proper inventory labeling, and maintaining related records and documentation. They also conduct physical inventory count, perform inventory test counts, sight inventory, and low stock checks and adjustments, verify and adjust inventory records, as needed, and resolve inventory variance reports. Furthermore, incumbents must maintain safety and cleanliness of warehouse, perform daily inspection of the warehouse and surrounding area for unauthorized entry and potential unsafe working conditions, perform general cleaning and housekeeping tasks, and alert supervisor to problems and concerns as needed. They also pick up surplus property from departments and deliver to central storage location, verify proper transfer paperwork is present and provide to Purchasing, deliver other items as requested, create varied custom signage using laser sign machine, train others on proper usage and safety, perform basic maintenance on machine, and order related supplies. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by two years of experience in warehouse operations. Licenses and certifications required include a valid driver's license and a valid forklift certification, which must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as heights or machinery.
