We help their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. Our advocacy efforts extend our impact and advance our vision of ending homelessness among families with young children. Our staff of over 130 dedicated people are a passionate, diverse, and playful group. At Horizons, each team member is an important part of our mission. Summary of Position The Development Operations Assistant is curious, driven, organized and a firm believer in the importance of quality data and systems management. The Development Operations Assistant will report to the Director of Development Operations and will work closely with them and the AVP of Development to support all in-house development department functions including, but not limited to: gift entry, acknowledgments, database integrity, and department mailings. The Development Operations Assistant will also be responsible for helping maintain systems that ensure the successful and effective implementation of the departments annual fundraising plan. Responsibilities Gift Processing and Data Management (50% of time) Process all philanthropic contributions promptly, ensuring accuracy in gift coding and donor data management. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of appeals, funds, and gift types (e.g., multi-year pledges, matching gifts, stock gifts) to accurately capture donor intent. Coordinate with the Finance team for monthly revenue reconciliation to ensure financial accuracy. Prospect Research and Outreach (30% of time) Provide comprehensive research profiles on existing and prospective donors in advance of donor meetings, high-level research on event attendees, and targeted look book research on VIP guests and Board/committee members. Provide research on recent donors at weekly prospect meetings. Analyze, interpret, verify, and summarize data from a wide range of sources to determine potential gift capacity and inclination to give. Support the moves management process as needed including data entry and cleanup of actions and opportunities/proposals. Donor Communication and Stewardship (15% of time) Generate and distribute timely acknowledgment letters and tax receipts within two weeks of receiving the gift. Update donor records in Raisers Edge NXT to maintain accurate and organized data. Handle NCOA address updates from returned mail and assist in other data integrity projects as required. Event Support and Administration (5% of time) Assist the Development team with event logistics, including RSVP tracking, registration, setup, and post-event gift processing. Where and when youll work This is an hourly part-time position where youll work 20 hours a week. You can expect to work a hybrid schedule, meaning a blend of remote and in-person as needed, between Monday and Friday, typically between 8 am and 6 pm. Your actual schedule will be set collaboratively between you and your manager based on organizational need and your availability. There may be occasional evening or weekend events with advanced planning and notice. Our office space is located at Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA. Qualifications Qualifications Education and Experience BA or relevant combination of experience and training. 3-5 year professional work experience. Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Raisers Edge experience is strongly preferred, although other CRM/database experiences such as Salesforce will be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient in managing multiple and recurring data entry processes, prioritizing effectively to enhance data quality for a dynamic nonprofit environment. Strong organizational skills coupled with excellent time management abilities. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in gift processing and data entry, consistently meeting deadlines. Effective communicator adept at adapting communication styles to meet diverse recipient needs. Experienced in handling inquiries, providing support, and maintaining meticulous records. Collaborative team player, ensuring timely completion of project deliverables. Reliable in both team-based and independent work settings, demonstrating accountability and adherence to complex policies and procedures. Proficient in identifying and implementing process improvements as technology evolves. Maintains strict confidentiality in all tasks and operations.
