Job Opportunity With Sarasota County Government
Sarasota County Government is seeking an individual to join their dedicated team in the Planning and Development Services Department. This advanced leadership position involves managing and overseeing the Planning and Zoning Division, which includes planning, neighborhood services, zoning, and land development. The role also involves facilitating the County's Development Review Committee (DRC) and associated review and coordination processes. The successful candidate will represent the Planning and Zoning Division in public hearings, presentations, and meetings with the Sarasota County Commission, Planning Commission, County Attorney, and other County Departments. The role requires coordination with other departments, municipalities, adjacent county governments, and other jurisdictions in the development of policy recommendations related to planning, neighborhood services, zoning, and land development. The individual will also advise and assist other regional and state agencies, citizen groups, property owners, organizations, attorneys, and other interested parties with respect to strategic planning initiatives and projects. The position demands the promotion of effective and trustworthy working relationships by developing and empowering employees, promoting collaboration, excellence, efficiency, innovation, openness, and teamwork among staff. The candidate will also assist and support the Assistant Director with overall leadership, coordination, management, and administration of the Planning and Development Services Department and associated functions. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning, architecture, engineering, building construction, public administration, business administration, and six (6) years of related experience OR A Master's Degree with four (4) or more years of related experience. At least four (4) or more years of the experience must be in a supervisory capacity. Preferred qualifications include three (3) years of professional staff experience dealing with local and/or state government and the public. AICP certification is highly preferred. Familiarity with the overall functions of each service unit is highly preferred. Project Management and FEMA training is preferred. The position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. The salary range is $70,075.20 - $94,016.00 annually.
