ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors with more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 185 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.
This classification is responsible for providing recreational programming or facility coordination services for recreation programs. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities, events, and classes based on the recreational needs of the community. As well as preparing and promoting recreational activities for the assigned site. In addition to recreation programs, the Recreation Programmer will hold supervisor duties of part-time recreation employees, such as Recreation Leaders, Recreation Instructors, Parks and Recreation Aides, and volunteers. Other duties may include but are not limited to, tracking location and possession of keys and equipment, maintaining financial and activity records, such as accepting cash and credit card payments for a variety of services/programs, and entering contract information.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Relevant teaching experience and/or leadership skills are strongly preferred. Willing to teach four (4) or more classes per week at multiple locations. Proficiency in computer programs such as MS Office. Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired. SALARY
Pay Range: $21.02 - $34.25 per hour
Hiring Range: $21.02 - $25.56 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or area of recreational specialization. One year of recreation experience. Other combinations of education and experience which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprint ed and will have their fingerprint s used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Experience in adaptive recreation. Experience in financial management and cash handling. Experience in planning and managing recreation programs and sports leagues. Experience in supervising staff and volunteers. Experience working on special events. Experience in working with the public and providing customer service. Experience in working in an afterschool program or childcare setting.
