Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a highly motivated Regional Chief Engineer (CE) to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS. Specifically, this team works to ensure the safe and secure operation of the data center's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure to provide 99.999% availability for our customers. In this specific case, High Voltage Sub-Station (HVSS) experience is at a premium given the infrastructure layout of the PHL region.
The Regional CE is responsible for ensuring that all MEP equipment within the region is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The Regional CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with on-site Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT), CEs, Facility Managers (FM), and third party vendors.
The Regional CE also manages medium-to-large projects and programs from conception to completion. These projects and programs involve large amounts of independent work, as well as, collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in both local and global settings. The goals of such projects are for the Regional CE to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Key job responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center, to include HVSS
Operate independently with limited direct management
Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the region
Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
Create and deploy new standard practices for EOTs, CEs, and vendor support teams
Provide training and guidance to EOTs, CEs, and FMs
Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff
Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience
Work cross-functionally across teams to effect cluster-wide performance improvement with our internal and external partners by designing and implementing processes, metrics, and programs that enhance the end to end employee experience
Collaborate effectively across teams to define strategy, goals, and obtain commitment to timelines and deliverables
Physical Requirements:
Walk job sites in uneven terrain
Work at heights and from ladders
Regularly lift and/or move up to 40lbs; and participate in group lifts for 40lbs or more
Coordinate body movements when using tools or equipment
Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
Bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working
Perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired
Use hands to manipulate small wires and objects
Work in a noisy environment
Work at depths, such as under raised floors
Basic Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in applicable engineering field or mechanical or electrical trades
8+ years of of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
5+ years of Facilities Management Experience
3+ years of High Voltage Sub-Station (HVSS) Experience
3+ years of program or project management using metrics to define requirements and track program/project health
Preferred Qualifications
Operating engineering licenses such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent
Stationary Engineering or Building Engineering License
Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License
CFC license
NFPA 70E
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Solid leadership and organizational skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
