We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer with a strong background in relational and NoSQL databases. This role involves developing tools for self-service capabilities, collaborating with engineering teams, and enhancing our database infrastructure. The Senior Database Engineer will collaborate with architectures and application teams to design and implement scalable and reliable database solutions including high availability, backup and recovery strategies. The right candidate will write code to capture database performance and create tools and dashboards to provide actionable insight into that data and implement performance enhancements for database systems. The role will conduct proofs of concept/technology assessments on emerging technologies and help create product roadmaps.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement automation scripts, tools, and workflows to streamline database provisioning, configuration, patching and upgrades, maintenance, and monitoring
Collaborate with Enterprise Security to implement and maintain security measures, access controls, and compliance standards to protect sensitive data
Effectively communicate technical ideas and produce technical proposals, best practices, design specs, architecture diagrams, and presentations
Participate in L3/L4 level triage activities, incident response calls and handle on-call escalations
Train and mentor other database engineers
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in database design and automation
5+ years of progressive experience in database engineering and support
5+ years of experience with Oracle RDBMS technologies
5+ years of experience with performance tuning
3+ years of experience with data replication technologies like GoldenGate/STRIIM
3+ years of experience developing with Shell scripts, Python scripts, Jenkins, GitHub Actions CI/CD Pipelines
3+ years of experience deploying cloud-native databases in GCP or Azure
3+ years of experience deploying and managing Elastic Clusters on Kubernetes
3+ years of experience writing SQL queries for root cause analysis and tuning
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working as a Database Engineer in large-scale, fast-paced environments with OLTP systems
Healthcare experience
Experience with deployment automation/configuration management tools such as Java, TypeScript, GitHub Actions, Temporal, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform
Experience deploying cloud-native databases in GCP, AWS, or Azure
Experience with non-relational databases such as MongoDB and Cosmos DB
Knowledge of additional DB technologies such as MySQL and PostgreSQL
Cloud and database certifications
Strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented attitude
Ability to manage multiple projects independently
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with in-memory databases such as Redis
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
Anticipated Weekly Hours 40

Pay Range The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $101,970.00 - $203,940.00
This pay range represents the base salary for all positions in this job grade. The actual base salary offer will depend on factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
