Army Aviation Staff Support Officer
The Army Aviation Staff Support Officer (SSO) delivers technical, analytical, and programmatic expertise to Army G-8 leadership in support of aviation-focused force development and modernization. This position is responsible for reviewing and validating JCIDS and acquisition documentation, formulating investment and resourcing strategies, and preparing senior leaders for key decision forums. Drawing on operational experience in Army aviation units, the SSO ensures aviation programs are aligned with Army modernization priorities while managing ACAT II and III programs, supporting budget reviews, and producing executive-level briefings that enable well-informed capability and resourcing decisions. Essential Job Functions: Apply JCIDS (AR 71-9, CJCSI 3170.01) and Defense Acquisition System (DoDI 5000.2) processes. Review, analyze, and recommend positions on Army and Joint requirements/acquisition documents (ICDs, CDDs, ONS, BOIPs, ORDs). Prepare DCS G-8 leadership for boards, councils, and reviews (AROC, JROC, JCB, FCB, etc.). Extract, analyze, and validate data from equipping/resource systems (AE2S-M, CAMS, LAQA, ETR, LQA, cQUIP, AESIP, ECOP, FMSWeb, cPROBE). Develop and employ Business Intelligence/automation tools (SharePoint, Power BI, Power Apps, MS 365) to support analysis, reporting, and decision-making. Support planning, programming, budgeting, and execution (POM, PPBE, SPAR). Develop and present investment options, prioritize RDT&E and procurement resources, and validate AAO/APO requirements. Assess the impacts of PDMs and congressional marks, and coordinate allocation/distribution planning with ASC (LMI). Contribute to modernization strategies aligned with Army priorities (ReARMM, MDO, AimPoint, NDS). Participate in TAA, FFR, ARSTRUC, AMEC, and ASRC processes. Resolve equipment shortfalls and ensure modernization requirements reflect doctrine, training, sustainment, and operational needs. Provide timely information papers, EXSUMs, and smart books for senior leaders (including rapid assessments within four hours as required). Coordinate with ASA(ALT), PMs, Army Staff, ACOMs, and Joint stakeholders. Develop and deliver program briefings, budget justifications, and strategic communication products. Track and report program funding, schedules, risks, and equipment availability. Maintain situational awareness of assigned programs and provide decision-support documentation. Support development of program documentation and participation in Army ACIDS and other governance processes. Apply operational experience in Army Aviation from company to brigade level; understand aviation equipment requirements. Provide SME support to manage ACAT II and III programs within the Army aviation portfolio. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or Higher A minimum of four (4) years of experience and expertise in Force Development duties; Secret Clearance Required Demonstrate operational experience in Army aviation units from company to brigade level and must be familiar with the types of equipment used in aviation units; Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to manage Army Acquisition Category (ACAT) II and III Programs. Interdisciplinary skill set of PPBE, DOD acquisition processes and procedures (DoDI 5000.2) as well as expertise with materiel and/or force structure requirements development and validation (JCIDS).
