Open Door Mission – Glens Falls, NY Full-Time | Exempt Reports to: Board of Directors Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of Open Door Mission. The ED is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, vision, and programs, stewarding financial and material resources, managing staff and volunteers, cultivating external relationships, and partnering closely with the Board of Directors. This role demands both internal operational leadership and external community engagement to ensure long-term organizational sustainability and impact. Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
Lead with integrity and servant-leadership, modeling ethical and compassionate character in all interactions. Collaborate with the Board of Directors and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and goals. Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, compassion, and stewardship. Supervise and mentor leadership staff, fostering collaboration and a positive work environment. Oversee mission, implementation, and programs, services, and infrastructure aligned with the values of Open Door Mission. Operations & Administration
Oversee all day-to-day operations, including shelter, food pantry, recovery programs, and other services. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and best practices. Evaluate and enhance systems (HR, finance, IT) to support organizational effectiveness. Lead the annual budgeting process, maintain financial stability, and manage financials consistent with US GAAP. Ensure excellent financial stewardship. Ensure proper recordkeeping, reporting, and documentation across departments. Fundraising & Community Engagement
Lead development strategies to build productive relationships and generate ongoing support from foundations, corporate sponsors, and major donors. Represent the organization externally through public speaking, media engagement, and community outreach. Promote awareness of Open Door Mission’s impact and expand its visibility in the region. Board Relations
Serve as the primary liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors. Attend all Board meetings and provide regular reports on organizational performance, finances, and strategic priorities. Support effective Board participation in planning, fundraising, and community relations. Staff Development & Culture
Overall responsibility for development, support, and retention of staff and volunteers, including specific responsibility for working collaboratively with the identified leadership team to ensure a positive work environment. Champion professional development, staff care, and team-building initiatives. Promote servant-leadership and equip staff to work collaboratively and missionally. Qualifications
Minimum 5-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit or ministry settings; experience in rescue mission work is a plus; experience in housing and/or recovery centered programs is a plus. Proven success in strategic planning, team leadership, program development, and operations management. Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing complex budgets. Skilled in donor relations, fundraising, and public representation. Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor's degree required; relevant advanced degrees or equivalent leadership experience strongly preferred. Additional Requirements
Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, faith-driven, service-oriented environment. Have a heart for serving the needy and marginalized of our community. Be the face of the organization at community events, speaking engagements, etc. This position may require availability on evenings and weekends based on community events and public relations opportunities. Must be comfortable working with diverse populations of various backgrounds and circumstances. Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is $85,000 to $102,000. Benefits include PTO, and virtual medical, dental, vision which are paid for in full by employer. Additional benefits include Life Insurance and 3% Match IRA How To Apply
