Executive Director – Open Door Mission, Glens Falls, NY. Open Door Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving individuals who are homeless and low-income, operating a shelter, food pantry, addiction recovery programs, and community outreach services. The position is full-time and exempt, reports to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to advance the organization’s mission, vision, and programs, steward financial and material resources, manage staff and volunteers, and cultivate external relationships in partnership with the Board of Directors. This role combines internal operational leadership with external community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability and impact. Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Strategy: Lead with integrity and servant-leadership; collaborate with the Board and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and goals; promote a culture of excellence, accountability, compassion, and stewardship; supervise and mentor leadership staff; oversee mission, programs, services, and infrastructure aligned with the organization’s values. Operations & Administration: Oversee day-to-day operations (shelter, food pantry, recovery programs, and other services); ensure compliance with laws, policies, and best practices; evaluate and enhance HR, finance, IT systems; lead annual budgeting process; ensure financial stability and stewardship; ensure proper recordkeeping, reporting, and documentation across departments. Fundraising & Community Engagement: Lead development strategies to build relationships and secure support from foundations, corporate sponsors, and major donors; represent the organization externally through speaking engagements, media, and outreach; promote awareness of Open Door Mission’s impact and expand regional visibility. Board Relations: Serve as primary liaison between staff and the Board; attend all Board meetings and provide regular reports on performance, finances, and strategic priorities; support effective Board participation in planning, fundraising, and community relations. Staff Development & Culture: Oversee development, support, and retention of staff and volunteers; work with leadership to maintain a positive work environment; champion professional development, staff care, and team-building; promote servant-leadership and collaboration toward mission alignment. Qualifications

Minimum 5-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit or ministry settings; experience in rescue mission work a plus; experience in housing and/or recovery-centered programs a plus. Proven success in strategic planning, team leadership, program development, and operations management. Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing complex budgets. Skilled in donor relations, fundraising, and public representation. Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor’s degree required; relevant advanced degrees or equivalent leadership experience strongly preferred. Additional Requirements

Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, faith-driven, service-oriented environment. Have a heart for serving the needy and marginalized of the community. Be the face of the organization at community events and speaking engagements. May require availability on evenings and weekends based on events and PR opportunities. Must be comfortable working with diverse populations of various backgrounds and circumstances. Compensation & Benefits

Salary range is $85,000 to $102,000. Benefits include PTO, and virtual medical, dental, vision paid for in full by the employer; additional benefits include life insurance and 3% IRA match. How to Apply
