Established in 1978, Moores Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Moores Cancer Center Infusion Center, the Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) will function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center. The PA will provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments. Direct supervision will occur by assigned medical oncologists. The position requires a strong emphasis on the management of patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer related treatments, including clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies. This position will primarily be based at McGrath Outpatient Pavilion but will also provide patient care coverage for Moores Cancer Center infusion locations. Responsibilities
Provide patient care for infusion center patients, including management of toxicities and reactions to IV treatments. Supervision by medical oncologists; function as a provider of patient care oversight. Manage patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer treatments, including clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies. Coordinate care across infusion locations as needed. Perform initial history and physical examinations, identify major medical problems, and formulate plans of action. Document medical records accurately and follow infection control practices. Qualifications
Minimum: Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program. California PA license; Current PA Certification from NCCPA. Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with a commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire. One or more years of recent PA experience in heme/onc, infusion, and/or internal medicine with a focus on hematologic or oncologic conditions. Strong clinical knowledge across anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pharmacology, diagnostics, and patient counseling. Ability to perform comprehensive histories and physical exams and develop actionable care plans. Ability to manage own patient load and maintain accurate charting. Preferred: Two or more years of Oncology Infusion or Hematology/Oncology PA experience. Special Conditions
Must be able to work varied hours and locations based on business needs. Must obtain UC San Diego Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Pay and Benefits
