Overview Established in 1978, Moores Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation is reserved for centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education and community contributions. The Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) will function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center. The PA will provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments. Direct supervision will occur by assigned medical oncologists. The position requires a strong emphasis on the management of patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer related treatments, including clinical trials, bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies. This position will primarily be based at McGrath Outpatient Pavilion but will also provide patient care coverage for Moores Cancer Center infusion locations.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care oversight for patients receiving treatments in the Infusion Center, including management of toxicities and IV treatment reactions.

Coordinate with medical oncologists and infusion staff to deliver evidence-based care for oncology and related conditions.

Manage patient load with a focus on hematologic or oncologic conditions, including patients in clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies.

Perform initial history and physical examinations, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

Perform and interpret common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting; ensure infection control and accurate documentation of medical charts.

Minimum qualifications

Graduate from a physician assistant program approved by ARC-PA.

California PA license.

Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date.

One or more years of recent work experience as a licensed PA in heme/onc, infusion, and/or internal medicine with a focus on hematologic or oncologic conditions.

Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pharmacology, therapeutics, and related areas.

Ability to perform history and physical examinations, identify problems, and formulate action plans.

Knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.

Understanding of required supplies and equipment, infection control, and accurate documentation.

Strong ability to manage own patient load.

Preferred qualifications

Two or more years of Oncology Infusion or Hematology Oncology experience as a PA.

Special conditions

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.

Pay and benefits Pay Transparency Act: Annual Full Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 (prorated if appointment percentage
