UNC Health is seeking a clinical faculty member to join our hospitalist practice at the large regional campus in Wilmington, NC. This multi-specialty academic practice and children’s hospital is part of an innovative partnership between UNC and Novant Health to provide specialty care to children from communities throughout southeastern and coastal NC. The Novant Health - New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH-NHRMC) facility and Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital is a full spectrum community-based children’s hospital that serves as the tertiary care children’s hospital for southeastern NC.

This position is a clinically focused role in a regional community children’s hospital with a strong connection to a large academic group and quaternary children’s hospital.

Responsibilities

Provide inpatient care services to newborns, children, and adolescents, including admission, subsequent care, and discharge with in-house coverage 24/7.

Newborn care includes circumcisions; attending deliveries is not required.

Participate in emergency department consultation and surgical co-management.

Teach and evaluate Family Medicine residents, UNC medical students, and UNC Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellows.

Collaborate with a hospitalist team in Wilmington (seven other full-time hospitalists and five advanced practice practitioners).

Explore leadership opportunities within the group based on interest and experience.

Qualifications

BC/BE in General Pediatrics; experience and BC/BE in Pediatric Hospital Medicine is preferred but not required.

Pediatrics residency in an accredited program.

Minimum Education: Doctorate (MD or DO).

Board certified/eligible in General Pediatrics and/or Hospital Pediatrics.

About the Practice and Setting At NH-NHRMC, there are approximately 4,200 deliveries per year and 2,700 admissions with referrals from multiple centers in the region. The pediatric care team includes neonatology, pediatric surgery and anesthesia, pediatric critical care, cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and other specialties. Facilities include an eight-bed pediatric ICU and an eighteen-bed pediatric acute care floor. There are over sixty faculty and advanced practice providers in the regional campus. The UNC School of Medicine campus is growing, with up to 60 medical students for 3rd and 4th years. The UNC-NH partnership is investing in research at the Wilmington campus.

Location Wilmington, NC, a coastal city of approximately 125,000, located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. It offers a four-season climate, historic downtown with a Riverwalk, and nearby beaches within a short drive.
