System Performance Modeling Developer

role at

Logos Space Logos Space is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite system designed to serve the connectivity needs of commercial enterprise and government users. The system aims to provide resilient, high-performance satellite-based connectivity worldwide, with contracts that specify performance standards for customers. Logos extends cloud and data center network connectivity to fixed, seaborne, and airborne terminals. Logos Space is led by a team of engineers with proven track records in networking and satellite industries. Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Networking team is responsible for ensuring network success through software defined networking, performance monitoring, and other ground-segment components. The team collaborates with spacecraft design elements (RF, power management, etc.). The network will provide services at Layer 2, 2.5 and 3 for enterprise customers, and Logos will develop methodologies to manage flows at an enterprise level of assurance. This role will evolve tools to understand the impact of development from a conceptual framework to discrete event simulation at the message level, and ultimately to a digital twin of the deployed system. The Algorithm and Network Simulation Engineer will design, optimize, and validate simulation models and algorithms to analyze network performance, evaluate new technologies, and optimize network behavior across a hybrid space and terrestrial environment. This is an opportunity to contribute to core network architecture innovations. You should be prepared to work in a fast-moving environment, turning vague design ideas into hardware-ready test and flight concepts. We seek engineers who enjoy solving hard problems. Responsibilities

Performance Prediction and Strategy Development: Develop a lifecycle plan for assessing system performance at each development and deployment stage, guiding engineering and business decisions. Provide Early Evaluation of Network Algorithms: Represent proposed network formation and routing algorithms to support decision-making and assess impact on other system elements. Mature this Capability: Update the network design to reflect data exchanges, message definitions, and APIs, supporting the design process. Introduce Hardware performance models and limitations: Reflect design decisions for payload, bus, and ground segment in the network model to reflect system performance. Model System Resource Management: Analyze load balancing, resource allocation, routing, QoS, security within the hybrid network environment. Participate in Hardware in the Loop Testing: Extend tools to HWIL testing and performance analysis to validate designs and performance predictions. Manage Across Tools: Integrate internal and external tools from vendors and partners; guide make-or-buy decisions. Scenario Definition and Execution: Define and execute evaluation scenarios to test performance under nominal, failure, and varying traffic conditions. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze results, identify bottlenecks, and provide recommendations for design improvements and optimization. Support Technology Evaluation through Simulation: Use models to evaluate alternative hardware or software approaches. Manage the Evaluation Team: Lead a growing team, hiring and mentoring as needed. Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Work with network architects, system engineers, and software developers to translate findings into design decisions and implementation strategies. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation summarizing methodologies, results, and recommendations. Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with strong networking and simulation focus (Master's or Ph.D. preferred). Minimum 3-5 years of experience in network simulation and modeling. Strong understanding of networking protocols across Layers 2, 2.5 and 3. Some experience with space-based systems, orbital dynamics, and space-based networking concepts. Proficiency in network simulation tools (e.g., NS-3, OMNeT++, OPNET, NetSim). Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or Java for model development and data analysis. Solid understanding of algorithm design and analysis principles. Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience simulating satellite networks, including orbital mechanics, link budgets, and space-specific protocols. Experience modeling wireless networks and RF phenomenology. Knowledge of optimization techniques (e.g., linear programming, genetic algorithms) for resource allocation and routing. Experience with cloud-based simulation environments. Familiarity with machine learning techniques for network performance prediction and optimization.
