Final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date. Position Summary: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, performs technical functions directly related to surgical asepsis, instrument preparation and presentation during surgical cases. Independently performs activities related to preparation of instruments before, during, and after operating room cases. The OR Technician provides care and supports patient outcomes by contributing to Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice and Magnet's Five Models of Care in clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self, and colleagues, the OR Technician functions as an interdisciplinary team member to provide patient care and fulfill unit and organizational goals. Duties & Responsibilities
Follows established Operating Room policies and procedures Assists in the care, maintenance, distribution and control of equipment and supplies, sterile and unsterile, used in operating procedures Assist with operations as a Scrub Attendant, including arranging sterile articles, handing/passing serving instruments, dressing materials and sutures appropriate to the scheduled operation while maintaining sterility and orderliness of instrument tables Completes sponge, needle and instrument counts with RN prior to, during and after surgery according to hospital policy; report discrepancies to the Charge Nurse and attending Physician Under the direction of the RN, prepares medications (excluding narcotics) on the sterile field and double-checks dose with RN or MD prior to passing to the MD during the case Assist with infusions under direction of RN or MD; prepare the Operating Room for surgical procedures by procuring equipment and supplies as indicated Check equipment for proper functioning prior to case and after completion of case Participate in daily stocking of Operating Room supplies (e.g., suture or OMNI supplies) Initiate cleaning of OR equipment (e.g., laser machines) daily and ensure use of plastic covers Assist with instrument clean-up during routine hours or after-hours cases; responsible for cleaning and packing instruments after after-hours cases Performs other duties as assigned and may participate in special projects Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the NBSTSA or current NBSTSA eligibility Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification Preferred Qualifications
