Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, performs the technical functions directly related to surgical asepsis, instrument preparation and presentation during surgical cases. Uses judgment to independently perform activities related to the preparation of instruments before, during, and after operating room cases. The OR Technician provides care and supports patient outcomes by contributing to Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice and Magnet's Five Models of Care in clinical practice. Works as an interdisciplinary team member to provide patient care and achieve unit and organizational goals. Responsibilities

Follow established Operating Room policies and procedures. Assist in care, maintenance, distribution, and control of equipment and supplies (sterile and unsterile) used in operating procedures. Act as Scrub Attendant: arrange sterile articles, hand/passing instruments, dressing materials, and sutures appropriate to the scheduled operation while maintaining sterility and orderliness of instrument tables. Complete sponge, needle, and instrument counts with RN prior to, during, and after surgery according to hospital policy; report discrepancies to the Charge Nurse and attending Physician. Prepare medications (except narcotics) on the sterile field under RN direction; double-check doses with RN or MD prior to passing to the MD during the case. Assist with infusions under direction of RN or MD. Prepare the Operating Room for surgical procedures by procuring equipment and supplies as indicated. Check equipment for proper functioning before and after cases; assist with instrument cleaning and daily stocking of OR supplies. Initiate cleaning of OR equipment and ensure use of plastic covers as applicable. Assist with instrument cleanup during routine hours or after-hour cases; during after-hour cases, clean and pack instruments. Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications

Associate's degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program. Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred Qualifications
