Overview
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, Division of Student Affairs, Student Activities at Inside Higher Ed. This role reports to the Director of SLIC and leads day-to-day management and implementation of programs, services, and initiatives that cultivate student leadership, civic agency, and social responsibility. Responsibilities
Direct supervision of professional and student staff; oversee the SLIC office space and operations. Support signature service and leadership programs and advise student organizations. Develop and deliver leadership training; strengthen campus and community partnerships. Contribute to the centers strategic planning, assessment, and student development efforts. Mentor students, empower peer leadership, and advance the university’s commitment to ethical, engaged, and globally minded leaders. Manage program portfolios focused on leadership development, civic engagement, and service learning; support campus-wide events and trainings. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and technology support for events; supervise graduate assistants and student staff for front desk operations. Recruit, train, and develop undergraduate student leaders (paid and volunteer); provide mentoring and coaching to foster inclusion. Support BU Hub experiences, assessment efforts, data-informed decisions, and communications/promotional efforts (newsletters, blogs, digital storytelling). Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, reimbursements, grant management, and payroll coordination with appropriate staff. Foster and maintain partnerships with university departments and community organizations; represent SLIC on institutional committees; ensure compliance with safety and risk management policies. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in student engagement, leadership development, service-learning, or civic engagement. Experience supervising professional and student staff preferred. Proven ability advising student organizations and/or supporting student-led initiatives. Deep understanding of student development theory, identity development, and inclusive leadership practices. Willingness to work evenings and weekends to ensure team success.
