Head of North America Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
Location: West Hartford, CT Base pay range: $240,000.00/yr - $265,000.00/yr Job Summary: As part of the global compliance function within the 2nd Line, lead the North America compliance function to deliver an effective service that enables the business to meet regulatory expectations and supports the strategy of the North America businesses within the wider Group strategy.
Responsibilities
Leadership/Management: Oversee the delivery of the North America Compliance Plan, including Regulatory Engagement and Government Affairs strategy, Horizon Scanning priorities, Training focus areas, and Legal Risk objectives, aligned to the 2nd Line strategy.
Collaborate with the North America CRO to enable the Risk Management agenda and formal reporting; ensure a collaborative 2nd Line of Defence directorate.
Maintain relationships with key stakeholders and senior leaders across Beazley’s businesses to position Compliance as a capable, service-oriented function that supports the Group’s strategy.
Manage onboarding processes and CPD/training to ensure effective deployment of regulatory processes; maintain development and succession plans.
Advise on US and Canada regulatory requirements and oversees licensing and cross-border compliance; ensure appropriate oversight of activities to comply with regulatory processes and support sound management of the function.
Ensure staffing models, regulatory filings, licensing requirements, and risk controls are aligned with business needs and 2nd Line requirements; manage regulatory and product filings and reporting; coordinate with risk committees and boards as necessary.
Regulator Relations: Own BAU regulator relations for North America; develop and maintain relationships with regulators and external partners; oversee regulator engagements and information requests.
Strategy: Align with Group Chief Risk Officer’s 2nd Line strategy; continuously assess and improve ways of working with technology and organisation design as appropriate.
Risk: Accountable for North America Compliance risks and participate in risk management activities with the Group Risk function; support risk culture initiatives.
Brand Champion: Build Beazley’s brand with regulators and external stakeholders; evaluate trade association participation as appropriate.
Internal Relations: Position Compliance effectively within Beazley; maintain close relationships with North America Boards and Committees; ensure staff training on regulatory matters.
Qualifications
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
In-depth P&C experience: regulatory/compliance requirements for the insurance industry
Legal practice experience – essential
Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws applicable to insurers
Cross-border licensing knowledge desirable
Proven management experience and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
Strong business acumen and solution orientation
Understanding of Lloyd’s of London model advantageous but not required
Desirable regulator relations experience in insurance
Aptitude and Disposition:
Motivates others; nurtures new talent
Highest integrity and discretion
Strong written and verbal communication; analytical and detail oriented
Organized with ability to meet deadlines; negotiates effectively
Firm but diplomatic; friendly and approachable
