Overview

Senior Satellite Communications Security Engineer at Leidos. Lead the engineering, design and implementation of cryptographic product security, transport, and accountability for key and data in high and medium assurance satellite communications applications. Responsibilities

Lead system engineering, hardware, and software analysis to support the Navy’s Key Management project portfolio, including satellite communication security. Define and apply systems engineering processes to develop systems and solutions to meet customer requirements. Manage requirements, including decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation for use by development and test teams. Define and develop System Architecture, CONOPS, and use cases using systems engineering methodologies. Participate in customer meetings, working groups, and technical interchange meetings related to the project. Research, design, write, and review technical documentation (manuals, specifications, interface requirements, user guides, data sheets) to assist with design, integration, testing, and fielding of the system; provide project briefing materials upon request. Option to work a 9/80 schedule. Relocation assistance available to move to San Diego, CA. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 9+ years of experience, or Master’s with 6+ years of experience. U.S. citizenship and active Secret DoD security clearance. Experience in requirements decomposition and in analyzing risks and uncertainties; ability to navigate projects through established processes. Understanding of complex system development methods; knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., TDD, peer programming, debugging) and design patterns. Knowledge of Agile development; excellent verbal and written communication skills. DoD 8570 approved security certification (e.g., Security+), to be obtained within 90 days after hire. Desired Qualifications

Understanding of threats to satellite systems and the role of cryptography in mitigation. Understanding of satellite communication architectures and security approaches; constraints on encryption and key management in space, including performance and latency. Knowledge of satellite payload waveforms, TT&C cryptography, and cryptographic key management for satellite and ground stations. Understanding of cryptographic security for satellite TT&C and transec keystream generation for secure satellite communication. Knowledge of emerging satellite communications concepts (mesh networks, optical inter-satellite link encryption, cloud processing of downlinks). Familiarity with Cryptographic Key Management based on EKMS/KMI and COMSEC operations and accountability processes. Experience with scripting (Python, shell), SQL, collaboration tools, AI frameworks, CI environments, and various programming languages. Knowledge of PKI, security frameworks, STIGs/RMF, and cryptographic mechanisms (SHA, HMAC, Elliptic Curves, quantum resistance).
