Overview
The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California's 10 campuses. As an integral member of the Sports Medicine team and Athletic Performance Unit, the Associate Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation will play a leadership role in the holistic, year-round care of UC San Diego scholar-athletes. The role requires professional maturity, leadership, collaboration across disciplines, and a track record of innovation and impact in elite, interdisciplinary environments. Responsibilities
Uses advanced concepts and campus objectives to resolve highly complex athletic training services. Assumes administrative leadership of related sports medicine programs and applies evidence-based practice to clinical and professional problem solving. Ensure prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries with significant time demands. Lead the sports medicine and athletic performance staff to uphold best practices in designing and implementing return-to-sport programs customized to individual scholar-athlete needs. Coordinate with medical personnel for injury referrals and follow-up care as needed. Oversee reconditioning and rehabilitation of scholar-athletes on referral from physicians using appropriate physical agents and modalities. Collaborate with the performance coordinator to implement baseline measurements for injury prevention and return-to-sport assessments. Lead initial case management meetings with head coaches and program support staff on overall return-to-sport planning for injured scholar-athletes. Create and implement policies and protocols for equipment use, injury prevention, treatments, screenings, and assessments. Be an approved preceptor for athletic training students from various Athletic Training Education Programs. Qualifications
Must have a minimum of seven years of experience in athletic training working under direct supervision of an NATABOC-certified Athletic Trainer. For positions associated with Sports Medicine, maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the NCAA or NAIA, and comply with applicable rules to avoid violations. Advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine; proficiency with athletic training aids, first aid, and CPR. Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, or equivalent; must be NATABOC certified in good standing. Certification as an instructor in First Aid and CPR/AED preferred. Demonstrated supervisory skills with the ability to lead, motivate, delegate, train, supervise and evaluate staff and student employees. Advanced knowledge of athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation techniques. Demonstrated ability to use physical agents and modalities in care and treatment of athletic injuries; extensive experience with rehab methods and injury prevention. Experience developing mental health screenings and emergency plans; experience working with students of concern. Strong knowledge of teaching techniques to train student interns; knowledge of coaching principles for various sports and their relation to injury prevention. Computer skills relevant to job duties; experience with systems such as Smartabase and Catapult. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive matters; casework management experience with similar workload. Ability to work collaboratively, organize and prioritize work, analyze programs and operations, and develop recommendations; strong written and verbal communication skills. Advanced ability to interact with diverse populations; excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism in attire, attitude, and communication. Knowledge of electronic medical records and local medical facilities for emergencies, referrals, and specialty treatments. Special Conditions

Pay Transparency Act: Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 ( prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68. The Hiring Pay Scale reflects budgeted salary; the Annual Full Pay Range may be broader due to internal factors. Application and Equity
