The Psychiatrist performs highly advanced psychiatric assessment work and reports directly to the State Hospital Medical Director. Work involves conducting psychiatric activities, monitoring trends, diagnosing, and treating State Hospital patients. Administers specialized psychiatric treatments, assessments, and procedures as needed. Reviews and analyzes system data to ensure recovery plans are individualized and decisions are made with the Recovery Team. Provides consultation or training to direct care staff to implement recovery plans. Attends weekly/monthly meetings and leads discussions to inform and create buy-in for necessary changes. Participates in committees of the State Hospital Governing Body and performance improvement activities. Plans, assigns, and guides the work of others in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care; may supervise others depending on hospital structure. Performs other duties relative to the position. Works under minimal supervision with substantial latitude for initiative and judgment. Additional Duties
include participating in disaster response/COOP activities as required, potentially involving alternate shift patterns or locations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of methods and procedures in general medicine and general psychiatry. Knowledge of person-centered care and recovery plan development and documentation. Knowledge of psychiatric treatment principles and collaboration with staff. Knowledge of state formulary guidelines and documentation for exceptions when needed. Experience with in-patient psychiatric services and electronic health records. Skills in medical and psychiatric assessment, diagnostics, and treatment tools. Ability to establish physician-patient relationships, including via telemedicine, and manage recovery plans with coordination among disciplines. Ability to lead and direct psychiatric activities and supervise staff as assigned. Ability to manage polypharmacy with justification and documentation. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise work; work independently with good judgment and time management. Ability to participate in ongoing training including CPR and restraints safety. Strong communication and documentation skills. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
Unrestricted Texas medical license; board certified or board eligible (completed residency in Psychiatry) prior to start date. Initial Screening Criteria
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). At least three years of psychiatrist experience preferred. Twelve months experience with psychiatric disorders preferred. Additional Information
Background checks, pre-employment drug screen, registry checks (CANRS, LEIE, etc.). Selective Service registration for males 18-25 if applicable. Minimum age requirements and immunization policy compliance. Vaccination policy and potential mask requirements if not immunized for influenza, based on policy.
