Responsibilities

Perform highly advanced psychiatric assessment work and diagnose and treat State Hospital patients.

Administer specialized psychiatric treatments, reviews, and procedures as needed.

Collaborate with the Recovery Team to ensure recovery plans are individualized and implemented.

Provide consultation or training to direct care staff; participate in committees and performance improvement activities.

Plan, supervise, and guide work in a multidisciplinary approach; may supervise others depending on hospital structure.

Participate in disaster response/COOP activities as required.

Attend and chair meetings to inform changes and ensure buy-in; support the State Hospital Governing Body strategies.

Develop and organize psychiatric recovery plans that are person-centered and least restrictive.

Coordinate with neurology for dually diagnosed individuals and maintain appropriate documentation in the electronic health record.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attend work regularly and work a stated schedule, including potential overtime per agency policy.

Utilize a multidisciplinary approach to complete assessments and administer treatments in line with policies and standards.

Engage in performance improvement activities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Establish physician-patient relationships and manage treatment plans, including reviewing labs and adjusting medications.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of general medicine and general psychiatry; ability to develop person-centered care and recovery plans.

Knowledge of state formulary guidelines and documentation for exceptions when needed.

Experience in in-patient psychiatric settings and proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office.

Skills in diagnosis, treatment, and collaboration with the recovery team; ability to manage polypharmacy when necessary.

Ability to plan, assign, and supervise work; work independently with strong judgment and time management.

Ability to participate in required training (e.g., CPR, restraints) and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

Unrestricted Texas medical license; board certified or board eligible (completed residency in Psychiatry) prior to start date.

Initial Screening Criteria

At least three years of experience working as a psychiatrist.

Twelve months of experience with people with psychiatric disorders preferred.

MD or DO required.

Additional Information

Fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks are required.

Selective Service registration for males 18-25 where applicable.

Vaccination policy compliance and related accommodations as per HHSC policy.
