Description The Operational Legal Support role serves as a legal resource for the operations and compliance team, delivering timely and practical guidance to support company objectives. This position involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating key operational agreements, managing liability claims, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and risk management requirements. The role collaborates closely with land, construction, and compliance teams to streamline legal workflows and provide input on land rights, permitting, and project timelines.
Responsibilities
Serve as a legal point of contact for the operations and compliance team, providing timely, practical guidance.
Draft, review, and negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), work orders, and customer/services agreements.
Ensure that vendor agreements, safety language, indemnity clauses, and insurance requirements align with operational risk management goals.
Manage liability claims, including legal & insurance.
Identify and mitigate legal risk in company operations.
Work closely with land and construction teams to provide legal input on land rights, utility easements, permitting status, and project timelines.
Help streamline internal and external legal workflows for faster turnaround on high-volume operational agreements.
Coordinate with SMEs to advise on legal and regulatory obligations tied to company operations.
Support matters involving applicable rules & regulations (e.g., PHMSA, Railroad Commission of Texas, Oklahoma Corporations Commission) and other local and federal regulatory bodies.
Assist with regulatory filings, permit reviews, and legal components of audits or inspections.
Regulatory & Permitting Compliance
Coordinate with SMEs to advise on legal and regulatory obligations tied to company operations.
Support matters involving applicable rules & regulations (e.g., PHMSA, Railroad Commission of Texas, Oklahoma Corporations Commission) and other local and federal regulatory bodies.
Assist with regulatory filings, permit reviews, and legal components of audits or inspections.
Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience
J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Colorado or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar.
2–4 years of legal experience (in-house or regulatory agency preferred).
Strong preference for experience in utilities, energy, natural gas (midstream/downstream), or other regulated infrastructure sectors.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
