Overview
The Amara Legal Center provides free trauma-informed legal representation, access to support services, and advocacy for a more equitable legal system for individuals impacted by sex trafficking or involved in sex work in the DC-metro area. This position focuses on case management, intake, partnership-building, outreach, and programmatic support. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional administrative and organizational abilities, and a deep commitment to social justice and public interest work. Responsibilities
Partnerships and Outreach
Conduct trainings on human trafficking and Amara’s services Attend and present at community events in DC and Maryland to spread awareness of human trafficking, survivors’ rights, and Amara’s services Spearhead outreach efforts, including developing and implementing outreach plans geared towards underserved populations, such as men/boys, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with disabilities, and other groups Coordinate and promote virtual and in-person events, including professional trainings, cross-trainings, Know Your Rights, community events, and all pre/post tests and evaluations Research and identify potential new partner organizations, build relationships, and draft MOUs Plan and host quarterly partner network meetings Maintain regular communication with existing partner organizations and collaborate with the Executive Director to host one on one check in meetings with partners Attend and participate in task force and coalition meetings Represent the organization in a positive light through great follow-through skills and sound judgment Case Management
Track and respond to incoming requests for legal services; conduct new client intakes Conduct needs assessments for Amara clients and develop individualized case management plans, including warm hand-off referrals for clients seeking mental health services, housing, and other support Conduct bimonthly one on one meetings with each client to provide support and monitor progress on case management plans Conduct Post-Service Reflection meetings with clients to gather feedback about their experiences Collaborate with staff attorneys to provide holistic support for clients Organizational Support
Oversee data entry for intakes and legal cases into Amara’s case management platform Recruit and onboard new pro bono attorneys, volunteers, and interns Play a key role in the coordination of staff efforts within the organization Conduct online research and prepare Powerpoints/memos as-needed Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff attorneys to update Amara’s training materials and Powerpoints as-needed based on emerging trends and best practices Other tasks as assigned Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, communications, program management, or related field and/or three years of proven professional experience Strong interest regarding sex trafficking, sex workers’ rights, and/or sexual assault Ability to pay close attention to detail, successfully manage time, and prioritize workload Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong professional writing and verbal communication skills Openness to continual learning Demonstrated proficiency in Google Suite Commitment to excellence in performing duties at the highest level possible on a consistent basis Desired Skills/Qualifications
Understanding of sex trafficking and survivors’ rights Strong commitment to social justice, public interest, and trauma-informed service delivery Experience working in the victim services field Experience as a project manager and/or case manager Experience conducting trainings and community outreach activities Experience using case management software Flexible work from home options available.
