Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental engineering professionals who lead air quality permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Air Quality Team develops and implements environmental programs to ensure compliance with air quality regulations and standards in the Americas while enabling AWS’s growth globally. The role focuses on air dispersion modeling to support air permitting and compliance for AWS facilities in the Americas (AMER) region. You will serve as the environmental representative for AMER to deliver air permitting projects, partnering with stakeholders across AWS to incorporate air dispersion modeling into planning, building, and operating data centers. You will manage strategic air dispersion modeling and air permitting projects and provide regulatory compliance guidance for design and operations teams. You will work with internal and external partners, including government entities, AWS regional environmental engineers, consultants, design, construction, operations, and other stakeholders. You will regularly engage with stakeholders, report to AWS Environmental leaders, and ensure risks to air permitting and compliance pathways are identified, communicated, and managed. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of air dispersion modeling in support of air permitting in North America, the ability to deliver multiple high-priority projects, drive alignment across teams with competing priorities, and be a strong advocate for air quality compliance and sustainability. Key responsibilities
Function as a leader for air dispersion modeling work in AMER by completing air dispersion modeling analyses in support of air permitting and strategic data center planning and design Develop air dispersion modeling tools and mechanisms that provide efficient technical oversight to environmental and partner teams Collaborate with relevant business units such as environmental infrastructure development, design engineering, due diligence, real estate, construction, and operations beginning early in capacity planning and site selection and throughout the design phase to ensure future compliance with environmental regulations and modeling thresholds Manage contracts, budgets, and relationships with environmental consultants and vendors to complete air permit applications, modeling analyses, and air emissions testing Prepare air permit applications in AMER by managing their preparation for new construction, modifications, amendments, and renewals Lead regulatory agency interactions for permit evaluation, processing, new processes and technology introduction, and technical application of dispersion modeling protocols Build effective relationships with regulatory bodies, laboratories, and service providers for the air permitting program Consult on strategies to reduce the environmental impact of air emissions Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company Day in the life
This role centers on functioning as an environmental air quality engineering leader, providing critical dispersion modeling analyses and strategies that support AWS growth and compliance in the Americas. You will work with partner teams across the data center development lifecycle to encourage sustainable air quality development and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will monitor evolving air quality permitting and modeling regulations and assess impacts of regulatory changes on AWS, proposing courses of action as needed. The AWS Environmental team is a dynamic group responsible for architecting and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs, risk management and compliance systems, standards, tools, auditing, metrics, and training. The team engages with all AWS business units to support scalable and effective environmental compliance strategies aligned with AWS’s sustainability goals. About the team

Basic Qualifications
- 2–5 years with air dispersion modeling analyses (AERMOD) in support of air permit applications and NAAQS evaluations - 2–5 years with air quality regulatory assessments and air emissions evaluations, serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or program manager Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with air permitting at local, state (e.g., minor source/synthetic minor source), and federal levels (e.g., Title V, NSR, PSD) - Experience with engine-specific regulations including 40 CFR 63 Subpart ZZZZ and 40 CFR 60 Subpart IIII; experience conducting iterative, just-in-time dispersion modeling analyses via AERMOD with and without GUI software - Strong interpersonal skills: communication, relationship-building, influencing and negotiation, and coaching across levels Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
