Overview

The Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in computational Earth and planetary materials. We seek a candidate with the potential to carry out a program of research in the broadly-defined area of computational materials chemistry with applications to the geosciences that may complement one or more of the Department’s current and traditional research strengths, and who will be an effective teacher in undergraduate and graduate courses. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in the geosciences or closely related field at the time of appointment Clear potential to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program that would include mentoring of a diverse body of graduate and undergraduate students Demonstrated commitment to excellence in inclusive teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels Post-doctoral and/or other post-Ph.D. related professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

Creativity and quality of relevant research to date Demonstrated fundability of research Experience with, and demonstrated expertise in computational materials chemistry Potential for collaboration within the department to advance its research mission, including existing research in mineral physics, planetary geology, and geochemistry Demonstrated potential for mentorship at graduate and undergraduate levels
