Overview
Capital One is seeking a culture-led, results-driven, and strategic Director of Corporate Development. As a Director, you will partner with various Capital One lines of business to define and execute their strategies for acquisitions and strategic partnerships for the company. The Corporate Development Team is responsible for acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships across our major lines of business, including Consumer Card, Business Cards and Payments, Retail Bank, Auto, Commercial, and Network. The organization has also invested in enterprise priorities including Travel, Shopping, and Enterprise Technology and Software Services. You will apply strategic and analytical skills to major company initiatives, developing growth strategies, identifying opportunities, and executing transactions across the full lifecycle (market research, sourcing, diligence, negotiation, approval, and execution). The ideal candidate demonstrates curiosity and integrated problem solving, with strong communication, problem solving, and technical skills, and can manage large cross-functional internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Strategy: Develop a deep understanding of Capital One lines of business and strategy, collaborating to identify and develop investment opportunities through acquisitions and strategic partnerships aligned to strategic objectives
Market Coverage: Monitor market trends and growth opportunities across Consumer and Small Business financial services, Payments, Travel, Dining, E-Commerce, Shopping, and related merchant services, and core banking technology
External Relationship Management: Build relationships with companies in financial services and technology, including investment bankers and consultants
Sourcing and Business Case Development: Identify opportunities and build business cases with key stakeholders
Financial Analysis: Lead the creation and maintenance of financial models for acquisitions, partnerships, or divestitures
Transaction Execution: Manage analyses and execution of potential transactions, including negotiation, structuring, due diligence, contracting, and integration planning
Cross-Functional Problem Solving & Results Focus: Lead cross-functional teams and external counterparties to drive integrated analysis and execution
Communication: Develop and deliver executive presentations grounded in information-based strategy
People Leadership: Build and leverage a high-performing team and partnerships across the enterprise
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or another quantitative discipline (Math, Economics, Statistics, Science, Engineering) or military experience
At least 6 years of experience in an analytical role
At least 3 years of experience in people management
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance
5+ years of acquisition and strategic partnership deal execution experience
3+ years of Financial Services, Financial Technology, and/or Enterprise Technology M&A experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon hours worked. McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Corp Development. Other locations follow location-specific ranges. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation (cash bonus and/or long-term incentives).
