This role is part of the New Shepard program, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

Responsibilities

Lead the analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures, including composites and metallic piece parts, as well as integrated structural assemblies.

Detailed hand calculations and FEM analysis of primary and secondary aerospace structures.

Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings/documents.

Coach, mentor and technically assist junior engineers.

Support configuration development and trade studies.

Analysis checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and best practices.

Work with vertically-integrated teams responsible for materials and manufacturing processes to produce aerospace hardware.

Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.

Identify opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings.

Qualifications

Minimum of a B.S. degree or higher in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.

10+ years of experience within the fields of aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures or systems analysis.

Demonstrated excellence in:

Static analysis of composite and metallic structures

Analysis of stability critical structures

Damage tolerance assessment of composite and metallic structures

Vehicle level finite element model pre- and post-processing as well as model verification and validation

Proficiency with one or more analysis codes, particularly reading/manipulating input files: Optistruct, ANSYS

Expertise in use of Altair Hyperworks products

Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across a team, earn trust, and maintain positive professional relationships.

Desired

Knowledge of aerospace and/or launch vehicle structural requirements

Familiarity with composite failure modes and standard test methods (in-plane, interlaminar, shear, fracture, etc.)

Experience with analysis of Mechanical Systems

Experience with analysis of Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems

Loads development experience

Experience with Creo (ProEngineer Wildfire 4 or greater)

Compensation Compensation range for WA applicants is $140,959.00-$197,342.25. Other site ranges may differ.
