The general dentistry staff Dentist serves as a practicing Dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. Functions / Scope of Assigned Duties
The general dentistry staff Dentist shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following (though not limited to): Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity. Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions. Administer local anesthesia. Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth. Perform simple and complex extractions of teeth. Perform alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures. Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work. Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth. Perform routine and surgical periodontal procedures. The scope of practice that a specific provider may perform is defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process. The incumbent will function as an equal member within the larger team of staff Dentists and auxiliary staff. Individuals with specialized training in a particular specialty may be assigned section chief responsibilities for that subspecialty and may function as the primary clinician or subject matter expert responsible for formulating policy, procedures, education, and training affecting the daily clinical operations of the subspecialty. As a staff Dentist, the incumbent may provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences, committees, and lecture series. The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. Dentist Basic Requirements A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited school approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Must have completed an accredited program and hold a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note:
Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
