Position Summary
The Regulatory Manager is responsible for ensuring Nestle Health Science products fully comply with applicable US regulations and internal Nestle policies. Responsibilities include product composition, labeling, and associated communications. This role will master the regulatory environment for NHSc products in the US, including dietary supplements, conventional foods, and medical foods. The Regulatory Manager leads cross-functional teams in areas such as recipe compliance, labeling, claims substantiation, ingredient qualification (e.g., GRAS, NDI), and nutrition science. The role develops and implements regulatory strategies to support innovation projects and anticipates regulatory developments that may affect the current portfolio and future pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure full regulatory compliance with US regulations and internal Nestle policies for product composition, advertising, labeling, website, and all communications. Work with other departments to review substantiation of health claims, structure/function claims, and ingredient qualification (e.g., GRAS, NDI). Communicate regulatory concerns to the business and develop/implement regulatory strategies. Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance to cross-functional teams. Advise on regulatory aspects of factory controls, testing, product variances, and compliance criteria.
Innovation and Renovation:
Collaborate with Marketing and Product Development to identify opportunities for innovative product claims, positioning, and business strategy support. Provide scientific and regulatory input to qualify Innovation & Renovation concepts and ensure regulatory strategies support new product development. Provide regulatory review of projects at each stage gate as needed.
Regulatory Environment:
Align with company objectives to participate in advocacy strategies. Monitor consumer trends and the regulatory landscape to anticipate developments. Support strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of regulatory and scientific affairs.
Foundation:
Foster regulatory knowledge across the organization and provide training, development, and coaching to the regulatory team to build capacity and strengthen contributions.
Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Life Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or related discipline required. Advanced degree such as Master’s or RD, or similar, is a plus.
5+ years in the food and/or dietary supplements regulatory environment with full expertise on regulatory compliance (product composition; DSHEA; ingredient qualification such as GRAS/NDI; labeling; health and structure/function claims; overall product communications).
Exposure to industry groups, governmental authorities (e.g., FDA), and scientific societies.
Ability to manage high-complexity projects and prioritize actions with clear criteria.
Direct people management is not required immediately but may be a development opportunity.
Availability for occasional national and international travel.
Compensation and Benefits The approximate pay range for this position is $110,000.00 to $140,000.00. This range is a good faith estimate at the time of posting and final compensation may vary based on knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
