Overview

Tenure-Track, Sociology (Open Rank) position in the Department of Sociology, Criminology, & Anthropology at North Central College. Start date: Fall 2026. The department emphasizes experiential and engaged learning and is on-campus. The contract is 9.5 months with a teaching load of 20 credits per academic year (typically five 4-credit courses over two semesters). Responsibilities

Instruct a range of undergraduate courses in the sociology curriculum, including sociological theory. Assess students’ work and provide detailed feedback to improve content knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. Mentor undergraduate students through one-on-one and group interactions, including independent study, thesis, and internship opportunities. Engage students in research where possible. Create inclusive spaces in and outside the classroom. Develop opportunities for community-engaged learning. Leverage experience and content knowledge to develop and review curricula for the sociology major and minor. Contribute to continual program improvement through annual evaluation of program outcomes and objectives. Prepare departmental reports as requested. Attend conferences and workshops as necessary to remain active in the field(s); engage with campus resources and professional organizations to develop teaching, pedagogical, and mentoring skills; complete campus-wide training as required. Pursue current and new research activities in the field(s), including new research projects, writing/dissemination of current and future research, and presentation at conferences or other venues. Perform other departmental duties and attend activities as necessary, including department and college meetings and participation in committees, task forces, etc. Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Sociology by August 2026. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and research. Preferred Qualifications

Teaching proficiencies in social inequality or qualitative methods. Research that includes undergraduate students. Record of fostering an environment that stimulates intellectual growth and engagement. Experience designing and teaching innovative courses that add to current departmental offerings. Salary Range

Assistant Professor: $62,000 – $67,000 Associate Professor: $72,000 – $78,000 Professor: $83,000 – $88,000 About North Central College (NCC)
