The Student Housing Ambassador (HA) position is an integral member of the Housing team, serving as first point of contact and representative of the Housing Office and Florida International University. The Housing Ambassador serves as a service provider and resource for current residential students, families, visitors and others outside the University community. The HAs work with Housing Office staff to ensure effective service delivery and support the mission and values of the Housing Office. HAs assist with day-to-day administrative and customer service responsibilities to provide excellent services to students in the residence halls. General Expectations: The HA is a resource for residents, families and campus members and should be familiar with Housing and Residential Experience services and policies. The HA communicates Housing procedures and policies to residents. The HA supports the vision, mission, values, and goals of Housing and Residential Experience. The HA helps create a friendly, respectful atmosphere in the departmental office. The HA arrives on time for scheduled shifts and communicates absences promptly. Role Modeling and Leadership Expectations: Abide by all residence hall and university policies and serve as a positive role model for students. Fulfill training and supervision expectations. Administrative Responsibilities: Answer the departmental phone line, receive and disseminate information, and assist with general office tasks. Serve as first-line communication with residents, families, and visitors (in person, phone, email). Provide clerical support, maintain files, assist with data entry, and use departmental databases to answer questions. Perform clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and faxing; complete special projects as assigned. Customer Service Responsibilities: Maintain a welcoming, professional attitude; provide excellent customer service by phone, email and in-person. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information. Lead tours for prospective students and families during scheduled times; assist with University Open House, Move-In and Move-Out days (select Saturdays). Job Category

Federal Work Study Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Undergraduate students must have a 2.5 GPA at application and maintain 2.5; Graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA and maintain 3.0. Must be registered for at least six (6) credit hours as an undergraduate or three (3) as a graduate student. Must be in good standing with the Department and University; consent to conduct checks before hiring and each semester. Must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting per Housing and Residential Experience requirements. Must currently live on campus or have lived on campus previously at FIU within the last 3 academic terms. Who May Apply

Students enrolled at FIU with Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid. Enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours in a degree program or Financial Aid eligible certificate during Fall, Spring, and Summer. FWS employment must end if credits decrease, aid is canceled, or student graduates. Work Schedule

Scheduled for no less than 12 and no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year, between 8:30am and 5:00pm, with a fixed schedule each semester. Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions. Assist with office coverage during Fall, Thanksgiving, Winter, and/or Spring Breaks as assigned; do not plan vacations until coverage is assigned.
