Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology

We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Specialty Doctor to perform independent elective outpatient clinics across a range of sub-specialties (Cataract, YAG, VR, Oculoplastic & Glaucoma) in Ophthalmology. The post holder will also have a fixed theatre session each week to include training, and the ability to perform a list independently following Clinical Director sign off. The post holder will have no requirement to undertake acute clinics as these are not undertaken within the organisation. The post holder would join the 2nd on call rota. Resident on call is not required.

Main duties of the job KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical & Educational Duties : Work under Ophthalmology Consultants across sub-specialities but independently within scope of practice. Support high standards of in-patient and out-patient care.

On-call:

Participate in the 2nd on call (non-resident) on-call rota.

Teamwork & Flexibility : Collaborate with colleagues across the service to deliver comprehensive ophthalmic services. Adapt to negotiated duty changes and cross-site working (Worcester & Bromsgrove).

Supportive Professional Activities (SPA):

1.5 SPA allocated for CPD, appraisal, audit, clinical governance, mandatory training, and service management (based on a full-time post, pro rota for part-time post).

The full proposed timetable is included (based on a full-time post-holder).

Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS-funded ophthalmology services in England. We provide services for NHS ICBs, NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, and other providers of NHS funded services. We deliver over 125,000 patient interactions annually, including outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships.

Job responsibilities It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Specialty Doctor to join a dynamic and motivated team either on a part time, or full-time basis. The service currently consists of six permanent consultants, three optometrists, one nurse practitioner and large team of locum specialists to deliver a high-quality service.

The post holder would have opportunity to undertake further professional development and research in line with the organisation €™s strategic objectives, and funding will be provided by the organisation.

This requires a flexible attitude to working practices, managing patients in partnership with other consultant colleagues and professional staff and making the best possible use of resources put at the disposal of the service. This is likely to require negotiated changes of duties and time-tabled sessions from time to time. Cross-site working will be required

Person Specification Experience

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Broad clinical experience and competence in Ophthalmology

Experience in general ophthalmology and on-call settings

Subspecialty experience (Glaucoma and/or other areas)

Experience planning/managing ophthalmic patients across sub-specialties

Evidence of leadership and multidisciplinary team working

Experience and enthusiasm for teaching

Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of completed audit projects

Critical appraisal skills and knowledge of research methodology

Attendance at teaching courses / formal teaching qualification

Research familiarity with publications

Training in clinical/educational supervision

Understanding of current issues in Ophthalmology

Qualifications

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION & GENERAL

MRCS or equivalent (Essential)

Minimum 3 years Ophthalmic Post-Graduate experience with Foundation Training (Essential)

Current GMC License to Practice (Essential)

Eligibility to work in the UK (Essential)

Ability to travel across sites (Essential)
