The University of New Haven seeks a seasoned administrator to assume the role of Dean of the School of Health Sciences. About the School of Health Sciences

Founded in 2018, the School of Health Sciences (SHS) is known for its progressive student-centered curriculum. Its community-focused, interprofessional education provides students the opportunity to apply learned competencies in real-world clinical settings. SHS’s mission is to educate its approximately 600 undergraduate and 550 graduate students in becoming competent, caring, and resilient health professionals by delivering innovative, interdisciplinary healthcare education and services. In pursuing this mission, SHS prides itself on the quality and dedication of its faculty and staff. Classroom instruction is supplemented by the Health Professions Advising Center, which offers tailored and targeted advisement to the School’s future health professionals. A nationally recognized institution across myriad health science fields, SHS earns frequent accolades and awards and is noted for its excellence inside and outside of the classroom. The School’s departments of Allied Health, Rehabilitation Sciences and Wellness, Physician Associate, and Population Health and Leadership house nine undergraduate degree programs, ten graduate degree programs, and 11 certificate programs. Undergraduate programs include Dental Hygiene, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition Sciences, Paramedicine, and Public Health. Graduate programs include master’s degrees in Healthcare Administration, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition Sciences, Public Health, Speech-Language Pathology, and doctoral degrees in Health Sciences and Occupational Therapy. The School of Health Sciences is looking forward to launching its Physician Associate program in 2025. About the Opportunity

The Dean will have the opportunity to build upon the School of Health Science’s strong foundation, providing creative and visionary leadership to enhance and elevate its programs and further its mission to educate students for challenging and meaningful health careers. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will leverage existing strengths while shaping a forward-looking vision and developing a corresponding plan to ensure SHS continues to be a national leader in health sciences education. Working closely with 35 full-time and 75 part-time faculty members, the Dean will prioritize operational excellence, program and enrollment growth and development, strengthening and establishing new community relationships, and building a unified culture within SHS. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in SHS. The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills with the ability to effectively partner with a broad range of constituents internally and externally. They will be a persuasive communicator with strong and highly effective interpersonal skills and a deep record of teaching and scholarly research. The next Dean must also possess prior experience in the administration of both clinical and non-clinical programs and demonstrate an ability to strengthen programs to attract, support, and retain a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
